Our principal, Penny Bruce, is passionate about the design of beautiful bespoke soft furnishings, building on a lifetime’s career in fabrics and fashion. Penny has been sewing since childhood, with a mother who sews, knits and cooks it was only natural that Penny would inherit/learn some of her mother’s skill. From her early days Penny always had varied craft projects on the go and she has never lost her passion or enthusiasm for beautiful fabric. Originally training as a fashion designer, Penny worked in technical roles for labels like Aquascutum and Alexon before making the move over to soft furnishings.
Her soft furnishing skills were developed through training at The National Design Academy in both professional curtain making and interior design, and through her ongoing involvement with the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF) and the US based Home Furnishings Academy.
As a fully accredited Member of the AMUSF and subject to their rigorous assessment process, Denton Drapes' work is always of the highest quality. Penny has developed a robust quality control process and coaches each member of the team personally.
Her commitment to the protection and development of the soft furnishing craft was recognised in 2012 when she was elected to the Board of the AMUSF where she now serves as a Director.
Since 1997 Penny has built Denton Drapes from a home based business to a fully staffed and equipped professional curtain studio and workroom providing couture soft furnishings to discerning homeowners and to the interior design elite all over the UK.
Clients and designers are welcome to visit the workrooms at any time to view the work in progress, browse through our extensive range of fabrics and curtain supplies, and to discuss their requirements directly with Penny and her team.
